Bill Richardson’s Global Warming Hypocrisy & Where’s Pete’s Defense

Let’s get to the issues that fire me up and deplete the blogsphere.

New Mexico Dictator/Governor and democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson has been a vocal advocate for the recent hysteria over the theory of global warming. Recently, his royal highness signed into law two bills that embrace the hysteria. The first bill forces New Mexico utility companies to produce 15% of their energy from ‘renewable sources’ by 2015 and 20% by 2020.  The second bill creates a ‘Renewable Energy Transmission Authority’ to promote clean energy resources and encourage their creation in other states.

Here is a frightening excerpt from the Governor’s official energy policy statement off his campaign website:

“Government’s role – indeed its obligation– is to provide a clear vision, strategic investment in technology development, incentives to move forward – and most importantly, legal and regulatory certainty.”

Basically, the Governor believes that it is the job of government to further regulate our lives and the private sector over what many level headed scientists and citizens see has a historically normal climate change. Yet, the Governor and his far left-wing allies see it as the perfect hysteria to increase the size of big/nanny government. Governor Richardson wants the government to lead the way.

Governor continues in his statement:

“In the absence of federal leadership, I feel a real sense of urgency to take action at the state level to fight global warming and strengthen our energy security.”

Yet, it is very interesting, but not surprising, that Bill Richardson does NOT practice what he preaches.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, Governor Richardson allowed the use of his new taxpayer funded jet to taxi his state transportation commission chairman Johnny Cope. Mr. Cope, of Hobbs, has flown six times as the ONLY PASSENGER on the state jet. Transportation Commissioner John Hummer and state Transportation Secretary Rhonda Faught have also been allowed SOLO flights according to records. This is a very interesting jet-use policy for a Governor who puts fighting ‘global warming’ as one of his top priorities. Apparently, conserving travel behavior to fight ‘global warming’ is good policy to be forced on citizens but not good enough for practice when it comes to Bill Richardson and his cronies.

To put the icing on this cake of hypocrisy three of Cope’s six solo flights occurred on days when no commission meeting was scheduled or had destinations nowhere near the site of the meetings. It seems that when it comes to ethics our governor has no shame either.

Bill Richardson….do what he says, not as he does.

Where’s our defense of Pete Domenici? Last month a Survey USA poll conducted by KOB-TV showed that Pete’s approval ratings had dropped from 64% to 57%. A new poll conducted yesterday shows that Pete’s approval ratings have dropped even lower to 54% which is his lowest ever. Where is our defense of Pete?

The Iglesias scandal is still a threat to our New Mexico GOP. A democratic led ethics crucifixion is about to begin of Pete’s ‘role’ in the firing of U.S. Attorney David Iglesias. Yet, we hear no defense of Pete from our own state GOP. Where is everybody?! Now, conservative New Mexico bloggers Whitney Cheshire, www.wednesdaymorningqb.blogspot.com, and Mario Burgos, www.marioburgos.com, have been doing a great job of defending Pete and attacking David Iglesias’s record of incompetence and laziness. But it is not enough. We need action from our state GOP.

Why is it that we in the GOP just sit back and allow the radical left to slowly destroy our party leaders? Democrats made minor charges against then GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich on the floor of the House. The charges went unchallenged and were sent to the House Ethics Committee where they were made an issue that helped to bring down Newt. Republicans stood by and allowed it to happen. Once the Democrats had made those charges against Newt on the House floor Republicans should have immediately leveled several counter charges against all of the then Democratic House leaders. We should have neutralized it off the bat by making the Democrats understand that it would become a war of attrition. The same happened with Tom DeLay. We sit back and let it happen.

Pete Domenici is New Mexico’s “Mr. Republican”. Pete has done so much for New Mexico and is one of the few office holders in the New Mexico with a history of honest and open character (Rep. Steve Pearce being another).

To sit by and allow him to be slowly wounded is a crime. Pete Domenici has been our voice of reason and our defender of conservative values in the U.S. Senate. Pete Domenici is our fighter for the rights of the unborn and traditional marriage. Pete Domenici is our fighter in keeping our taxes low. Pete Domenici is our fighter to protect our gun rights. Pete Domenici is our fighter to make sure that our military has the funding and support they need to continue our effort to defeat the terrorist threat to our nation.

We can NOT sit by and do nothing as the radical left goes after Pete. We need to fight!
