AMNESTY DEFEATED, Dean’s Top Ten Movies, & Seattle Popcorn Ban

Let’s get to the issues that fire me up and deplete the blogsphere.

THE SENATE’S AMNESTY BILL HAS BEEN DEFEATED! WE DID IT!

I want to say thanks to all of you who helped me in e-mailing and faxing Senators to tell them how we in the silent majority feel. Apparently we all did a great job because the news reports that this morning the Senate’s phone, fax and e-mail systems were so overwhelmed that they experienced a meltdown.

The Senate voted 46-53 against ending debate thereby killing the bill.

I think Senator Bob Corker, R-Tennessee, said it best when he stated, “Americans feel that they are losing their country … to a government that has seemed to not have the competence or the ability to carry out the things that it says it will do.”

This is a great day for law and order. This is a great day for sovereignty. This is a great day for Americanism and preventing a legitimizing of the invasion of the disloyal.

God bless our Republic. One Flag. One Language. One People.

I decided to have a little fun today and list my all time favorite top ten movies. I have always loved movies. The first movie I remember seeing in the theater was Return of the Jedi with my dad. I was four years old and I remember loving it as well as the Kit Kat candy bar and soda. I have been a movie junkie since. I currently own over 300 DVDs of classics, action, drama, westerns, crime and etc. I have developed a taste for older movies especially. Enjoy the list.

1. TOMBSTONE-Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliot, Bob Paxton and etc just give one hell of a performance in this tale of Wyatt Earp. I watch this whenever it comes on TV. My favorite line is when Wyatt surprises the two cowboy hit men at the train station sent to kill him and his family. After killing one of the would be assassins, Wyatt lets the other one flee while yelling at him, “You tell them I’m coming! And Hells coming with me! You hear! Hells coming with me!” Then you see Wyatt and his three friends riding out of the sun seeking justice like the four horsemen. Great movie;

2. THE SEARCHERS-You can NOT go wrong with John Wayne. The Searchers showed that John Wayne could act. His portrayal of the conflicted and even dark Ethan Edwards was fantastic. Plus, John Ford’s direction and the fact that it was filmed in beautiful Monument Valley, Arizona just puts the cherry on top;

3. CASABLANCA-This is a great story about how sometimes even though you love somebody you can’t end up with them in the end. Great story of sacrifice in the name of a greater cause;

4. GOODFELLAS-One of the top gangster movies ever made. Scorsese did a fantastic job of bringing a realistic and brutal view of mob life to the big screen. Plus, you can’t go wrong with an all star cast of De Niro, Pesci, Liotta, Sorvino and etc. Plus the music is great;

5. HEAT-I love the movies that Michael Mann does. I loved his 1980’s TV show Crime Story. He brings a real grit and brutal reality to his work. Plus, he is an artist with locations and use of exotic/ocean locales. The story for this movie was great and the characters were fantastic. You can’t go wrong with Al Pacino AND Robert De Niro. Plus, like Scorsese, Mann picks the right music for the movie;

6. ON THE WATERFRONT-Marlon Brando does an excellent job as a working guy who has to suffer to do the right thing. Great story and directing;

7. KEY LARGO-Edward G. Robinson plays a great gangster in this classic crime thriller that takes place in the Florida Keys. Gotta love the scene of him smoking the cigar in the bath while reading the paper;

8. GODFATHER-The ultimate gangster movie. Pacino and Brando do a great job of selling the emotion and action;

9. SONS OF KATIE ELDER-You can’t beat out this John Wayne and Dean Martin classic in which four wayward sons return home to bury their mother and avenger their father’s death;

10. RAGING BULL-A gripping movie that shows that De Niro’s character faced his greatest adversity outside the ring. The boxing shots were to the point of perfect. Another Scorsese masterpiece;

Picking a top ten was hard. There are so many others I love. Hundreds in fact, from Office Space to Goonies. From Saving Private Ryan to Cinderella Man. I could go on.

Just when I thought that big/nanny government couldn’t get any worse the city of Seattle proves me wrong. The city of Seattle, Washington is considering banning popcorn.

The Seattle City Facilities Department recently released the a memo to all city employees stating:

SUBJECT: Burnt microwave popcorn. The Justice Center has been evacuated eight times in three years, forcing the evacuation of more than 400 people.  If the problem continues, it will result in a ban of all microwave popcorn.

However, no one is really sure that it has happened so many times. In fact, Yolande Williams, Seattle City Court Administrator stated, “I really don’t know, I can’t answer that question for you.”

To make this tale even more bizarre a spokesman for Mayor Greg Nickels stated that his honor does not eat popcorn. Is that an official denial?! Is this the denial that comes after the ‘I didn’t inhale’ or ’I didn’t sleep with her’?

Ok, you do NOT need to pass an official ban on popcorn because some idiots don’t know how to use a microwave even though a monkey in a diaper can be trained to do it correctly. The rule of thumb is simple: When the popping slows to one or two seconds between pops, stop the microwave.

 If you are too stupid to know how to correctly make popcorn then you don’t have any reason working at City Hall. But then again, most bureaucrats wouldn’t know common sense if it fell down their pants and starting to wiggle.

Things just keep getting even more nuts.

  2. Ha ha ha! I love James Bond movies too. But they don’t make my top ten list. I can’t help it. They are close up there…especially From Russia With Love with Sean Connery but they still didn’t get up there. Sorry.
