About Me: I am a 26 year old political goon who has a few things to say and a love of my country. Proudly born and raised in the West Texas and SE New Mexico oil patch I have had the opportunity to work on many campaigns from local to federal. I even spent about 2 years working for my U.S. Congressman. I love my college, WBU, and all the friends I made there. I love my country and want to see its greatness and power protected and expanded. I’ve had many experiences that others haven’t. Here I will share those experiences and my thoughts.

I will add both of the ones you mentioned. I somehow forgot about them.

Let me add a book to your list — A Time for Truth by William Simon (1978). Before I read the book, I was amazed at the stupidity of politicians because they nearly always made anti-common-sense decisions (both Republicans and Democrats). After I read the book, it was clear to me that they and their decisions were anything but stupid. They were simply clever opportunists, with some exceptions like Dan Quail, who preyed on the ideological mindsets of of their target constituent block to turn their deceit into perceived virtue. Simon had been Nixon’s Treasury Secretary. He used very specific examples which are still relevant today.
FactorFiction,
Thanks for the recommendation. I have already ordered the the book you recommended by William Simon. I always read the books I recommend on here before I post them. So let me read it first then I will post it. From the reviews it seems that I will like it.
Thanks very much,
Dean
If you want to read a speculative political novel with a neo-libertarian twist and an advanced neural network antagonist, go to http://www.fictionQ.com and scroll down to The Media Republic.
I almost forgot the most important book of all — The Qur’an. It’s quite short and very enlightening. I have yet to meet an Islamophile who has read it. Actually I have yet to meet a disbeliever (infidel) who has read it. And that’s a great shame. There is a good site at USC with three translations you can compare.

I would like to see The Qur’an required reading in all high schools. Many students read ABOUT The Qur’an, but that’s very different from reading all of it.
FactorFiction,
I have read the Quran. I was lucky to attend a Christian university where the religion professors taught classes on all the major religions. One of the gifts I gave an ex-girlfriend was that book of love poems from the Middle East. I forgot what it was called. I do not take kindly to being called an infidel though.
I would NOT support making the Quran mandatory reading in all high schools. I would approve of it IF it was part of a class in studying ALL the major religions.

“Disbeliever” is the most common translation of one who has not accepted Islam. But many disbelievers who are not familiar with Islam don’t really understand that word. Everybody understands infidel, though non-fidel might catch on some day.
As for the Qur’an in high school, I don’t care if kids understand world religions. But I am concerned with them understanding that there is another side to Islam than what their politically-correct college professors are going to be teaching them. An objective study of the Qur’an will prepare them for the liberal BS that will be slung at them in college. The beauty of Islam, and specifically the Qur’an and the Hadith, is that it is so incredibly outrageous in its discussions of violent jihad, woman’s rights, apostasy, religious tolerance, and the political goal of world domination of Islam, that these truths will destroy it. Unfortunately, college kids are taught a few hand-picked parts of these texts. Most professors teach that “cultural diversity” requires us to accept Islam as different but just as good as our Judeo-Christian culture. An understanding of the Qur’an would allow them to put this in perspective.
FactorFiction,
I’d rather be a ‘disbeliever’ than a radical Islamic nutball. Bottom line: I’m proud to be a Christian infidel.

I can see where you are coming from. Instead of seeing all Muslims as radicals we can look at more moderate ones like Kemal Ataturk. Good show.

hey, thanks for the article about the 10 reasons that the Ohio smoking law is unconstitutional. I am in eighth grade and i had to do a project on why the ohio smoking law is unconstitutional. That article was a lifesaver!
Matt,
Anytime. You are welcome. But my 10 reasons to oppose was actually attacking the New Mexico State Smoking Ban. But don’t worry, the two bans are very, very similiar. In fact, one could say that many anti-private property/freedom organizations have the same template to copy to push statewide bans in their states. Overall, I am very happy I was able to help and let me thank you for having the guts to oppose the ban and argue why. Or, if you were assigned to oppose, for having the guts to still do the work to show why it was unconstitutional. Be proud to be a healthy skeptic.
